    Hahahaha.

Yes you take a punt on the 'what ifs' and if they don't pay off then you ask yourself "what ifs are left"?
    In AON case...not many.

I was told many years ago to never sell anything if you are down because then your loss becomes real. I quickly realised that if I didn't sell, my paper losses became bigger...and bigger...and bigger, until my real loss became even larger.

I now evaluate my investments regardless of my position. Whether I'm up or down I ask myself, "why am I parking my money here"? If I cant come up with a good reason I sell. After the disappointing announcement from AON, I asked myself whether I should still hold and the 'computer said no'...so I sold and have saved myself many thousands in further losses.

People are too quick to realise a profit and too slow to realise a losses. If you can be disciplined and operate in the opposite perhaps you may do better than the average punter.
