UBER declared an employer in California

The story of UBER continues to be controversial. Taxi industries around the world are mobilising legal challenges to the business plan which has made them a leader in the on-demand economy, in which vehicle "sharing" is but one.

Central to UBER is that it uses independent contractors accessing the UBER IT platform. If the courts rule that they are using employees the cost structure is blown out.

Methinks that inevitably this type of service industry will grow despite what the courts decide.
