Mittal decision on Areclor in the next couple of weeks. A takeover of Areclor is supposed to increase further steel takeover activity - BSL is apparently the frontrunner in oz.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission said on Wednesday it had extended by 10 working days its review of Mittal Steel's (Amsterdam:ISPA.AS - News) unsolicited 20 billion euro ($25.5 billion) bid for rival Arcelor (Paris:CELR.PA - News).
The announcement confirmed a story carried by Reuters on Tuesday based on a source. The Commission, the European Union's top competition regulator, said the deadline for its decision had been changed to June 7 from May 19.
The delay will allow competitors and customers to look at a divestiture that Mittal, the world's biggest steel maker, has proposed to remedy a relatively small overlap in Europe.
