Many regimes practice torture and brutality and observe no human rights for those who they regard as enemies of the regime. In fact most regimes do, including the US.
Saddam ruled the Baath Party with an iron fist and the Baath party ruled Iraq with an iron fist. Those (like the Iraqi exiles) who opposed the party were treated badly and cruelly, but for the general public in Iraq life was not intolerable. It's a falsehood to claim Saddam killed millions. Millions may have died in wars, effects of blockades etc but how many died as a result of political repression and harsh laws? Get you facts straight. Saddam is a self-indulgent vicious monster but blaming Saddam for every death in Iraq is stupid.
