Exactly right, not having the F-35 severely restricts the ships capability from being an offensive navy ship able to project force a considerable distance to now one of just logistics and support only. To maintain safe during conflict it will need to remain within the air cover of US Navy task force instead of being able to protect itself and assist in that key mission role.
