Another aspect of "ban all guns" is that they become infinitely more desirable becuase you can't have them. Once you've tried shooting, if it's not your cup of tea, then it fades away. Most people's knowledge of guns comes from TV and cinema, and the things you see are so far off the beaten track, it makes a shooter just shake his head and walk away.
