"that's an impressive attempt to downplay the findings of Sally Young's research."
I'm not downplaying her article I am stating that I completely disagree with the basis on which it is written.

I think calling it 'research' is allocating credit where little is due.
"I'm drawing upon data prepared by Nick Evershed for The Guardian two years ago that I've updated with the Abbott government's performance." - The 'research' was done by Nick Evershed, Sally just added Abbot's numbers and ladled on the left-wing spin.

The Age is a newspaper which espouses socialist views. No government can be too big, no number of expensive public servants is too many. There are few areas of Australian life which they do not want govt legislation to intrude into, usually accompanied by rules which give more power the unions, childcare being a prime example.

"This approach also values quantity over quality and doesn't measure how important the legislation was or its impact."

Seriously? Is that how we should measure a government?

"doesn't measure how important the legislation was or its impact."

I measure how important legislation is and the impact of Kevin Rudd unilaterally abandoning decades of bi-partisan strengthening of our maritime borders.
Judging by the most recent election the Australia voting public do as well.
The fact that The Age does not speaks volumes.
