I'm not sure homosexuals will have to do much at all. Same sex marriage would get up in a land-side if it went to popular vote. A Crosby Textor poll (that's the Liberal party's own pollster) last year found that 72 per cent of Australians want same-sex marriage legalised.
With polling like this, most of the coalition MPs opposed to marriage equality will do their best to avoid ever letting the public decide.
