Reality is even if the market is wrong the market is right. The market cap is what it is and when you use various ratios to try and get better insight and you come to the conclusion the market is wrong (undervalued or overvalued) the market will remind you in the next trading period that it is always right.
It is who plays in that market and how they play that may well distort a true reflection and shorting through options or contracts for difference can create that distortion.
