Many as you would know do not even bother with landlines and desk top PC's anymore...
In fact the only reason I have a landline is for a fax connection...some people still use facsimile machines. I have a 1300 number that lands on my mobile, and I do not have a landline telephone number.
I use a dongle on a laptop when out and about, but have ADSL2 at my office on top of the fax connection as it is convenient and is on 24/7. But, if it were not for the fact I need to still offer facsimile convenience for some clients, and a wireless connection won't work in my office due to a part metal construction I would use wireless for all my internet activity...
The NBN if it ever is completed will be good for Government offices and Public Servants, (that we pay for), Hospitals and the like...but as for the general population? Forget it....

The kids of tomorrow will also be demanding 4K (or higher) 3D TV-on-demand, and working more and more at home on tasks that require both high bi-directional bandwidth and low latency. If history is our guide, many of the applications they'll be using haven't been invented yet. I don't doubt that there will come a day when even 1GB/s is considered too slow.
