The pattern is early stage micro-cap bio-techs almost always pump and dump before concrete data emerges and then the price eventually stabilizes and continues upward movement if a drug gets approved. If the data ia bad and no drug approves they fade away into nothingness or get eaten up by big pharma.

Yes I do agree data will help provide evidence or proof to mitigate risk, but is this enough?

It has been discussed things need to occur for Benitec's success:
Science (preclinical looked brilliant)
Funds (check, albeit not a huge sum but approx $40m so far raised)
NASDAQ listing (check)
Yet the stock still looks no better off. So what is missing? Is data really the linchpin?
