All this talk about FMG using up it's best dirt and it's earnings being savaged but isn't market leader RIO precisely the same? China could grow at 5% and if the big four IO producers simply stopped oversupplying they would all be making great profits. This is still about RIO's strategy going beyond the point of sensible and into the realm of diminishing returns.

It's still artificial manipulation where RIO is not thinking short term profit or even mid term profit it's thinking long term and I believe it's thinking is misguided. FMG should just wait till the market punishment of RIO and BHP forces them to start matching production to value for capex.

I don't believe the government will stop China continuing to own parts of FMG, this is the same government that signed the China TPP and hasn't intervened with Australian owned IO being sold for next to nothing. Wants an Indian company to run our coal which is now a failing future commodity anyway. Hasn't stopped Chinese investors buying up real estate and farms. Judging by this gov's behaviour I don't think this gov gives a s*** who owns what in Australia it would be complete hypocrisy if it blocked Chinese investment in struggling FMG and tried to sign it's death warrant while allowing foreign owned RIO to prosper. Then again we saw RIO and BHP pull Abbott's puppet strings not so long ago.

Plenty of strong points from those with a negative outlook on this stock, as for me I think I'll continue holding, perhaps contrarian, perhaps village idiot
