Assad with his Western educated uncovered wife (he was an eye doctor) and his benign tolerance of Christians, Druze and all other minorities looks like a nice guy really, could sit down and have a coffee and a chat and the wives could discuss fashion. Why the West wants to replace him with Islamist nutters is beyond me. Gaddaffi built free houses for his people and was an eccentric playboy but the US prefers Islamist nutters. I'll take the crazy old lech with the gold track suite and 50 female body guards any day over some bearded, Koran-crazed psychopath.
Russia has got it dead right and if I were Putin I would start pushing back hard in Syria.
