So you think Abbott should taje a cow of silence because his party are in power and under more media scrutiny?
I say he can speak as he wishes. Morrison had no problem taking the issue to the airways, why shouldn't Abbott have a right of reply?
Perhaps it's Morrison who should have behaved the way you are expecting Abbott should.
