As I understand the way it works...

In islam, you are not free to chose your religion...

If you are islamic and you decide that you will now be another religion, you are an apostate and all other moslems are obliged to kill you...

Now of course enforcement probably depends on the country you are in and even where you live in terms of local moslem population concentration, but it would be presumed that if Obama travelled to say Saudi, the religious authorities there would be obliged to detain him, determine his religious status and if necessary impose their draconian sharia penalties on him...

I guess the aviodence of that potentially fatal and rather embarrassing problem could be one reason why obama is always bowing so deeply to the saudi king...
