A few years back I saw the movie Samsara which explored patterns in nature, civilisation and built environments ... not a word was spoken ... it was visual and aural ... I will always remember an aerial view of a Mecca pilgrimage (possibly the Hajj) as something like 1,000,000 filed slowly around in geometric order ... it was like watching the inside of a highly ordered bee hive or ants nest ... at the time I found it quite unsettling that such ideological control could be exerted on so many people simultaneously ... to me it was a visual metaphor for the power and reach of religions and for the potential misuse of that power.
