The death cross confirmed the change in trend after the big volume down candle (marked on chart ) you would have been out of BRU in the $1.70/$1.80 range instead of riding it all the way down to 26c / 36c - there have been several counter trend rallies that would have been profitable trades contained within the long term down trend - the point of the post was to add the value of T/A to preserve capital even for long term holdings.
T/A is never going to get you in at the bottom or out at the top.
