The announcement about Zimplats releasign 36% of its claims to the Zimbabwe Government explains the recent price action.
Under the formula, ZIM is to receive a cash credit equal to the number of shares on issue times the average share price over the 30 day period prior to signing the agreement (on 30 May or just prior).
It seems that the price of Zimplats was therefore kept artificially low by the Zimbabwe government to minimize it's financial obligation. It wouldn't surprise me if the sellers of ZIM over the past 5 weeks were brokers acting for Mugabe and his crew.
Now they probably actively buying up the company in anticipation of freedom of operations.
