Some have larger white and asian populations, some have stronger and more pro-active law enforcement - which makes a big difference - New York probably the best example. California, although if it was based on Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco....It would not be anywhere near that position on the chart. Because it is a large state with a large rural population - the figure is grossly skewed. Maine, another example, is almost 100% white.....because it is bloody cold....spent some time there. And some of the reported deaths would have been hunting accidents. The only surprise on the chart is Wyoming, I'd like to look into that....actually struck me as a very safe place. Hard to imagine any crazies there - just very nice country people. Wonder how many were tourists running around with guns, or imported druggies from other states....in a fertile market for theft and violent crime. Interesting chart. Now give everyone on the Mitchell freeway rush hours Glocks for six months.....and compare....
