Your 100% correct, but it's done know and it is a rare thing in big business, when money is involved that a decision is made to compensate or look after it's investors, unless there is something in it for the top end of the tree, an anterior motive.
Now I can't think of anyway that handing over the oppies would benefit anyone other than the current holders who are offloading them.
