I will take that one step further.

A theory I have is that they were aiming at Sanofi and that they had reached a informal deal pending formal negotiations. Then came Sanofi's jilted lover Medtronics and made a bid for UNS.

What I suspect is that they had a big fish on the hook then they started getting other bites. As a public company they have to explore all the options to maximize shareholder value. If there are several parties involved I suspect the process has turned into jam. I suspect they want Sanofi however other players are messing things up.

I'm not saying the price is getting bid up and that we will get a huge offer what I'm saying is the process is getting slowed down perhaps to someone's benefit.
