You should use a linux distribution. You can get an operating system with heaps of software for $12.95 and legally install it on all your computers. I currently use a Redhat enterprise clone which I picked up with a copy of linux magazine. (I would not recommend buying linux user and developer as it tends to only provide distributions that run from the dvd drive and cannot be installed onto your hard drive.)
