While Mr Voelte said part of Seven's strategy was looking for cheap, quality assets during the oil price slump, he was adamant the company's overall plan did not hinge on the sector.
"Don't get tripped up and just go down that energy path. There are lots of other opportunities out there," Mr Voelte said.
He highlighted Seven's WesTrac business – which owns is the sole authorised dealer for US machinery giant Caterpillar in Western Australia, NSW, the ACT and north-east China – as an area for possible expansion.
"We have industrial service capability and other revenue lines that could be enhancing on scale and scope. And the only reason I mention this is Ryan is the leader of that discussion usually when it comes up," Mr Voelte said.
