Maybe you are assuming that the top ups were done using free vouchers given to early subscribers. There is no grounds for such an assumption, as the post did not describe using vouchers.
Even if the top ups were done using vouchers, so effectively free, the credit will be used regardless of how it was obtained, ie free or via real money.
We know revenue has been generated, so some people are using real money for some top ups. This bug would result in greater revenue being generated. (If the users are willing to top up again)
