With it's new IP infrastructure, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) moved ftom analog phones to IP phones. They quickly discovered the benefits of unified communications.
Benefits include Outlook journalling, which gives ACT Police (governed by the AFP) as easy way to keep records of interactions with public. IP Phones have a phone locator which can locate a person on the network . Data networks can reach more places than the traditional phone network.
The AFP are currently working on a videoconference implementation which will allow end users to initiate video confrerences without needing to consult a helpdesk.
