re: its not soccer you americanized zombies Gentlemen, you are forgetting the game commonly known in Australia as "the greatest game of all" !
Rugby league is a sport played by gladiators in ever sense of the word...............and is commonly refered to as "football" or footy.

Rugby Leauge is played In Australia-England-France-New Zealand and many other smaller nations. Even the most avid follower of any sport would have to admit that nothing rivals the "state of Origin" spectical. There is nothing on the AFL-Union-soccer-gridiron-basketball or pinpong calandar that is played with such power, skill and emotion.

Perhaps in the long run Soccer will dominate the Australian sports scene (mainly because parents are becoming more reluctant to put there children in harms way) but that's still a long way in the future, if ever.

Regardless of what happens, Soccer will NEVER be refered to as "football" in Australia.
The promoters will NEVER get this to happen.

Soccer is a more gentle game to play on the field, but it attracks thugs like the English and German hooligans (e.g. yesterdays world cup spectator violence).
Australia has already had a taste of this type of behaviour in Sydney..............we don't want these types of European fanatics invading our peaceful life style.
