I've used a few collaboration products, and Aconex is a hands down winner in my view. I first used it as an architect on the $1bn Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, then 171 Collins Street. This is a few years back, but even back then it was rock-solid and calling the help desk at odd hours on the weekend always got a response. I haven't used it recently, but really like their approach to BIM and centralising the model data. I often have to use other platforms and always complain loudly about how Aconex is way better.
A lot of contractors and builders (smaller ones) are just getting on board with CAD and emails, and architects and engineers aren't much better (only just taking up BIM, but badly). That said, they get there in the end and there's Aconex waiting to mop them up. I think the market is huge once it all moves to newer ways of working. I wish I could just use Aconex for all my daily emails too...
Ramp over. Good luck to all.
