    Labor voters more pessimistic: poll

Labor voters are more than twice more pessimistic about their future than Coalition supporters, a poll shows.

A Newspoll survey found 59 per cent of Australians believe their standard of living will not change in the next six months, The Australian newspaper reports.

That is down from a high of 64 per cent in December 2004, and 62 per cent six months ago.

Just 19 per cent of Australians remain cheerful about their prospects for the next six months.

Labor voters make up the overwhelming proportion of those unhappy about their future.

Some 31 per cent of Labor supporters say they expect their standard of living to worsen - up from 22 per cent just six months ago.

The rise coincides with the introduction of the federal government's new industrial relations laws and a campaign by Labor and the unions predicting workers will be worse off under the new conditions.
