Post consolidation

This will be the first time I've actively watched a stock through consolidation and/or held stock going through such a process. Can anyone with some experience shed light on potential actions and share price behavior that they have experienced in the period immediately post consolidation on other stocks?

Is consolidation generally a good thing or a bad thing or somewhere in between?
