That's good to hear someone is at least propping up local businesses. Personally, the only thing I've ever bought from Dick Smith in my life is a severely overpriced HDMI cable.

I'm surprised to hear that Amazon doesn't stock the newest version of the Kindle given that is it their product. I always find DSE actually stock the older versions of the Kindle.

The Apple Store matches any discount that Dick Smith offers on their products, in fact, for non-customisable versions of their products they will beat a Dick Smith offer. I recently purchased a MBP retina, Dick Smith were having a sale but Apple gave me a 10% discount on a brand new product.

Their lack of competitiveness is only a very small issue. We haven't even touched on their major issues.


They have an identity crisis and are trying to compete with well established stores and online retailers. Which is further backed up by their latest financial reports. Unfortunately, they have learnt *absolutely nothing* from the failures of Radioshack in the US and Tandy in the UK. They need to reinvent, relaunch and reinvigorate the brand soon or they will not be here in 2016.

The only thing Radioshack is remembered for is Lance Armstrong and his one testicle bobbing up and down in lycra shorts on a bicycle in France. Dick Smith Electronics will be remembered for... Dick Smith and the launch of his Dick Heads box of matches.
