    The importance of HMAS Stirling - and its potential for future naval cooperation with the United States - was highlighted in the most recent Defence White Paper, released in 2013.

    The submission also said HMAS Stirling's freshwater sewerage system was overloaded and its saltwater sewerage system could not cope with demand and was possibly contaminated with residual hydrocarbon compounds.
