Cheaper does not equate to being more cost effective. The reasons that we have these different scans is that they show the problem in different ways. A year or two ago, the Federal Government enabled GPs to refer patients for MRIs in limited circumstances - e.g. knee, brain, spine etc. The Government would be well advised to look for savings in other areas rather than jeopardising diagnosis!
