I'll go one better. 2008-now have all been very average years.

No I wouldn't. I would say that the Howard government's fiscal policies greatly reduced the impact on the on the economy. The Rudd/Gillard/Abbott governments have all done their part in increasing debt. Overall though when comparing to most of the world during the GFC, I think we did fairly well.
