Very good post polpak - Coal needs to stay running 24/7 - gas can be spun up in peak times - in Melbourne their is one gas plant near Laverton - it gets used a lot in summer when everyone uses their air conditioners.
China is choking in coal smog from its power plants and gas is a safer energy source than nuclear so makes perfect sense.
Overnight we got the news from Paris about green house gas emissions agreement - sounds like they want to limit temperature rise to 1.5degrees so coal IMO is on its way out - dirty brown coal is the low hanging fruit for countries to target their emissions.
Carbon capture isn't happening.
