Interesting that the exchange is cut off where it is - because the radiosonde data doesn't show a pause. Only the satellite data does. See below (RATPAC = radiosonde, RSS = satellite).
They've been steadily diverging since 2000, for reasons which remain unclear - but knowing how difficult the challenge is in pulling an accurate signal out of satellite data, I'd be going with the direct thermometer measurements.
