I can understand DH being kept on as a consultant as he has "intimate knowledge" of the company's operations.
How much is he getting paid and frankly if he is accepting anything he certainly shouldn't be.
Sounds like an act of desperation to recruit senior management through a recruiting agency.
Smoke,mirrors and denial spring to mind.
