To some extent I agree, but the share trading and volume on those charts was enough of an indication that something was happening with ALA early december. No fundamentals at all.

I think a combination of both is the way to go personally, what an individual favours more though is what keeps the market interesting.

Agree entirely, as above it was the options trading which gave a clue to the latest announcement. We still haven't seen the volume of option accumulating which happen just before the latest announcement - so not sure the 1 million traded today is significant, or just traders getting in before an update from the company. They are much closer to the money today than they were a month ago as well so have a little less weight in my opinion.
