I wouldn't say obesessed
But shorts play a part in sentiment, that you and I may not be aware of, sometimes hidden clues as to why they would bet towards a fall, some shorts bet on 50% falls to make it worthwhile, shorting is also an expensive exercise and you need deep pockets to borrow, I think interest is also paid. (Can a shorter confirm this?)
