I will say that China will go the next step - is already taking it - from buying the commodities it needs, to buying the enterprises that make those commodities...be it mines, farms, whatever. In whatever country. Whether this gets through the FIRB, I don't know. Clearly the Chinese have a stake in Green Lake as @chris1983 has mentioned above.

The dairy property “Capel Farm” is owned by Chinese interests associated with Green Lake, with those parties having invested in excess of $10 million into dairy production assets in Western Australia to date, in order to secure long term supply."
