I tend to think this is what may have transpired aswell, bring in the CN for the SPP anouncement giving indication of successful takeover whether it involves the CN or not, revise financial situation once SPP is done, and then pay the break costs. Yes someone knows what was planned, but if it is what you mentioned djp I will be happy once the successful purchase announcement is made tommorrow.
