The reason these refugees were wanted in germany has nothing to do with compassion,or goodwill to mankind.
The germans wanted them there for one reason only,cheap labour.
The Turks used to be the source of cheap labour,but three generations on,and the young Turks now are well educated,but cant get work in their areas of expertise,the fact they cant be Germans either has forced them to go back to Turkey.
Note the reason the germans changed the two year rule.
In 1964, the recruitment treaty was changed to allow the Turkish workers to stay for longer than two years. It was too expensive and time consuming to constantly hire and train replacements. Later, the workers were even allowed to bring their families with them.
