The pharmaceutical industry have an onging war against natural products. One tactic is to use a small number of "experts" to create arguments such as the one below (ignoring the bits in brackets):

Research as shown that substance X causes cancer (when fed in high dosage to rats)
Natural remedies contain Substance X (in small amounts)
Therefore it is scientifically proven that natural remedies cause cancer.

Interestingly, the Chinese have a tradition of natural remedies, so this does not go down as well there.
