Cameco's Blind River operation is the world's largest commercial uranium refinery. Drums of uranium ore concentrates are shipped here from mines around the world, including those in Canada, Australia and the United States.
The refinery includes a processing plant, water treatment plant, power plant, nitric acid recovery system and analytical labs.
In the processing plant, we refine uranium concentrates to produce a high-purity intermediate product called uranium trioxide (UO₃).
UO₃ is shipped to our Port Hope conversion facility for further processing.
Cameco operates the Blind River refinery under a licence from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) issued in February 2012 for a 10-year term.
