There is enough gas in Australia to last hundreds of years and hoarding cash is a losing game because it loses value, rapidly at times. Hoarding gold is probably better but still a zero sum game because the PM market is a tightly controlled system.
Agriculture is good but hoarding food is a very expensive business. Property may be but that has its problems as well in a collapsing economy.

If you've ever been in outback Qld and seen it you would see the problem is not getting enough drinking water for people or stock it is getting enough rain to grow grass and cultivate the ground to feed the animals. This is why a lot of the better farmers out there have destocked their properties and now don't have any farm income. You couldn't possibly get enough water from recycling water to do this, you are talking thousands and hundreds of thousands of acres. Farmers have gone broke feeding cattle.
The only solution is rain and it has not come to a lot of them. This is happening now. What amazes me is the Chinese and others are buying some of these properties that are marginal, Ive always wondered if they really know what the hell they are getting into.
Hoarding enough water to make it profitable in the long run would be a monumental task. To get enough I cant imagine how many tanks or dams you would need. I could imagine when and if things get bad enough how one would protect that type of asset except with a very big gun and lots of them.
