Realistically, looking at a 3 cent dividend (likely) versus best FMG might do (10 cents ? I haven't done the calculation just guessing) how many shares could they offer to buy back I wonder.
A share buyback could be a good idea - reduce shorting - to the extent that actually matters which perhaps isn't much from a longer term investment viewpoint so long as the major shareholders understand the macro-economic environment - which they would as we know who the majors are (Twiggy, Valin, Capital Group mostly as proxy for JPMorgan). Possibly debt buybacks would be as easy to arrange in terms of managerial effort as a share buyback and might have as much impact on share price - essentially not much either way when sentiment is dominating so much over fundamental analysis.
