johnnpaull: Saddened to read that you are out of work. I do find work essential - not just for the obvious reasons to support the family and live in comfort. It is - JIMHO - also very important for one's mental health.
I cannot really imagine life without "work" - even if that work is for instance of volontary nature. In my case, I nowadays do "relatively little work" in the form of some consulting for almost no pay. It keeps me happy, as it does keep my mind active and still gives purpose.
