You must have purchased the stock prior to the x-dividend date and be the owner of record on the "record date". Dividends are paid per share. If you own 10000 shares and the dividend is .24; you will receive $2400. If the shares are franked, they have been taxed at the company rate and you may apply this tax to your individual tax liability.
