As for when the IoT business will finally make fiscal sense, nobody has a crystal ball. The aforementioned TEKsystems report on the adoption of IoT served up some pretty telling statistics, however. It noted that of the IT businesses it asked, only about 42% of them were in early talks regarding the implementation of IoT technologies, and only 17% had deployed actual IoT technologies.

Business leaders lack confidence in IoT technology

Businesses are slowly starting to adopt Internet of Things technology. However, a survey from IT staffing firm TEKsystems shows that while leaders understand the impact of the IoT, overall confidence in its adoption is low.

A study by TEKsystems, a company that offers IT staffing solutions, IT talent management expertise and IT services, reports that businesses are struggling to get Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives past the concept stage. Of the 200 IT and business leaders polled, 42 percent said their business was in early talks regarding IoT and its impact on business. However, only 17 percent said they had pilot programs in place; 22 percent said they have finally "transitioned into IoT-driven processes, services and products."
