Brackish / Saline groundwater in the Murray Basin is vast (100's of years of supply) and less saline than seawater in many regions. The potential for use of this water (start with salt interception schemes, already pumping Mega litres of brackish water per year for evap basins_) on irrigation and reduce reliance on Murray River.
This is where private and Govt funds should be focussed - on providing low salinity water for the Food bowl, whilst limiting inflows of saline water to the River.
