You can argue all you like but things will be this way in 5, 10, 15 and 20 years time. A constant battle between the US and its terrorist foes. It will exist and it won't leave. Especially if people like posses thoughts like that.
You also seem to equate the trappings of office with real power. Who's more powerful? The man who is now seen a would be martyr for millions standing against what he believes is the supreme evil or the dolt sitting in Washington chasing his own tail?
